Design A Bookmark Competition

The 2007 CBF Design A Bookmark Competition saw thousands of budding young artists from all over the Country compete for the chance to have their design printed up and used as an official CBI bookmark.

Congratulations to Claire Malone (10) from co. Kildare  and Dennis Appleby (11) from Co. Leitrim, winners of the 2007 CBF Design A Bookmark Competition (designs below).  Combining striking visual elements with a snappy catch-phrase, both Claire and Dennis' designs are sure to look great when printed up into posters and bookmarks to promote the Children's Book Festival in 2008.

The standard of all entries was once again incredibly high this year and judge Niamh Sharkey had a very tough time picking her favourites from each category. Commenting on the experience of judging and on the particular qualities of the winning entries Niamh said: "The quality of the entries was really impressive. It was such a difficult decision to choose the winners. Dennis Appleby's bookmark design stood out for the fantastic characterisation of the dragon coupled with the brilliant typography that perfectly matches the illustration. Superb! I love the colours and the graphic nature of Claire Malone's design. It is strong, direct and has huge appeal for both boys and girls. It will make a fabulous bookmark. Congratulations!"

Well done to both the winners and to everyone else who took part!

National Winner Ceremonies

Two fantastic prize-giving ceremonies were organised in Kildare and Leitrim to celebrate the winners of the 2007 Design A Bookmark Competition. Both events attracted a lot of attention from the media. Below are some of the photographs which were featured in local newspapers. A big thank you to all involved in organising these events!
