The CBI Bisto Awards are the leading annual Children's Book Awards in Ireland. Now in their 18th year, the awards have been s

ponsored since their inception by Bisto(Premier Foods). The Awards are made annually by Children's Books Ireland to authors and illustrators born or resident in Ireland. The Shortlist for the 2007/2008 awards will be announced on March 26th and the winners will be announced on May 22nd 2008. The award is open to books written in Irish or English.

 

There are a total of five awards made

 

 Bisto Book of the Year Award Prize.

€10,000 prize anda perpetual trophy and framed certificate

 

 Honour Awards

Three Honour Awards share a prize fund of €6,000 and each prize winner receives a framed certificate.

 

The Eilís Dillon Award (awarded to a first time writer for children)  

€3,000 prize and a trophy and framed certificate.

Each year CBI assembles a panel of judges who have considerable expertise and interest inbooks for children. The panel operates wholely independently of CBI.  In identifying the most distinguished books of the year, judges shall consider the following criteria for excellence:

  • Quality of the text and of illustrations and of design
  • Exceptional integration of text, illustration and design
  • Originality of the work and appeal to its readership
