Held at the West Cork Literary Festival in Bantry
7-11 July 2008
Monday-Friday
09.30-12.30
175 euro for five days

The course will cover the basics of storytelling, including plot
structure, characterisation, setting and - for those who want to write
picture books - working with an illustrator. If there are any budding
writer-illustrators, they will be catered for too. There will be a series
of writing exercises in different styles as well as a longer project to
test the participants' skills towards the end of the course. I'll cover
first-time reader all the way up to young adult. There will also be tips
on how to get published and information on what it's like to work with
publishers when you get there.

Born in Dublin in 1973, Oisín McGann spent his childhood there and in
Drogheda. He studied at Dun Laoghaire School of Art and Design, and worked
in illustration, design and film animation, later moving to London to work
as an art director and copy writer in advertising. He now lives in Ireland
and works full time. He wrote and illustrated the Mad Grandad series, The
Evil Hairdo and The Poison Factory, as well as five novels, The Gods And
Their Machines, The Harvest Tide Project, Under Fragile Stone,
Small-Minded Giants and Ancient Appetites. He is currently working on a
number of new projects.
