Summer Stories at Farmleigh

Please note that every event is free but places are limited, so please arrive early to avoid disappointment. Tickets are available on the day of the event only and will be allocated on a first-come, first served basis from a kiosk in front of the house. Please adhere to age guidelines to ensure events are enjoyed by all.

African Storytelling and Author Readings (30 – 45mins)

Location: Arkle Room
Ronke Arogundade (6-12 year olds) 11.15– 11.45

Storytelling and Poetry (40-50mins)

Location: Old Kitchen

Jack Lynch & Len Graham (6-10 year olds) 1.30 – 2.20*

*If weather permits, Jack Lynch and Len Graham's storytelling sessions will take place outdoors in the Paddock. Please check with a member of staff on the day.

Illustration Workshops (45mins-1hr)

Children's Book Festival 2008

This year the Children's Book Festival will run for the whole month of October. We are delighted to give you a sneak preview of this year's festival image designed by the hugely talented Cartoon Saloon. Stay tuned to the CBI site for more details of festival events, competitions and news.

Also keep your eyes peeled for Book Fest - CBI's annual recommended reading guide which will be available in October from you local library and bookshop.

Ibby Ireland announces

Green Gables to Globalization:
Crossover, Canada and Children’s Books

A conference to be held on Saturday October 18th 2008
in The Church of Ireland College of Education, Upper Rathmines Road, Dublin 6.

The conference will examine ways in which children’s literature transcends boundaries of all kinds, focusing in particular on crossover fiction and a sense of belonging in books from Canada, a post-colonial, multiethnic society.

Shorter presentations on ‘Perspectives on Canada and Children’s Books’ will be given by Kieran Fanning, Brian O’Neill, Martina Siefert.

Reading Association of Ireland Conference

ywc.gif The Reading Association of Ireland's 2008 conference centers around the theme The Changing Landscapes of Literacy - Building Best Practice. The conference will comprise papers and workshops on the role and development of literacy across the strands of language, reading and writing. Maureen McLaughlin will open the conference and give a further keynote address. Jackie Marsh (University of Sheffield) and Brian Murphy (University College Cork) are to give keynote addresses.
