CBI Bisto Book of The Year Awards

The results of the CBI Bisto Book of the year Awards will be announced on Thursday May 22nd at a special ceremony in Number 6 Kildare Street. The ten short listed titles are in the running for the title of Bisto Book of The Year, as well as three Honour Awards. Four of the titles are eligible for the EIlis Dillon award for a first time writer or illustrator. Details of the winners will be circulated on Thursday and will be available on the CBI website.

CBI Conference Booking Fast

There are a limited number of places still available for CBI's Annual Conference which takes place on May 24th and 25th in Pearse Street Library.The annual CBI Conference is a celebration of the best in books for young people. Featuring some of the most exciting names in illustration, writing, publishing and criticism, the weekend is an opportunity to meet established favourites and discover new voices, all in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. This year’s sessions will examine on the issue of voices in children’s books.

Speaker Programme: Saturday: Julia Eccleshare, Polly Dunbar, Laoise Ní Chomhraí, Julie O’Callaghan, Mary Finn and Enda Wyley.

Sunday: Professor Kristin Wardetzky, Anne O’Gorman, Tiina Nunnally, Nina Christensen, Tim Bowler and Robert Dunbar.

Storytelling - Serious Art or Child's Play

Storytelling – Serious Art or Child's Play?   
"The ability to imagine is an indispensable pre-requisite for understanding not only what  is heard,
but especially what is read.  
Literary education has to do not only with reading-readiness, but in the same way with imaginative ability."    
Join us for a talk and discussion with   Prof. Kristin Wardetzky

Professor Wardetzky is a lecturer at the Institute of Theatre Pedagogics at the University of the Arts in Berlin. Her special areas of research are 'Theory and history of storytelling as a form of art', 'Theory of fairy tales' and 'Theatre for Children and Young Adults'. She was the leader of the award-winning Berlin project "Speechless? A language-support project  for children from immigrant families", which introduces children to literature through the telling of fairy tales.
